Traffic Lights

Traffic lights control different movements at intersections. A green arrow may allow only one direction while other movements remain stopped.

Key Rules

  • A red light means stop.
  • A green arrow allows movement only in the direction of the arrow.
  • A red arrow means you must not travel in that direction.
  • A police officer directing traffic overrides lights and signs.

Common Mistakes

  • Thinking a green light always lets you turn without giving way.
  • Ignoring pedestrians when turning at traffic lights.

Practical Example

The light is red, but there is a green arrow to the left. You may turn left, but you must not go straight ahead.

Quick Check

  • What does a green arrow with a red light mean?
  • Can you make a U-turn at any traffic light?
  • Who overrides whom: a police officer directing traffic or traffic lights?
