Roundabouts
At roundabouts, choose the correct lane before entering, give way to traffic already circulating and signal when exiting. Slow down and do not change lanes inside.
Key Rules
- Give way to all vehicles already in the roundabout before you enter.
- Signal in good time when exiting at your intended exit.
- Choose your lane based on whether your exit is ahead, left or right.
- Cyclists and pedestrians near the roundabout still need extra care.
Common Mistakes
- Entering without slowing or checking traffic inside.
- Stopping unnecessarily inside the roundabout when it is clear.
Practical Example
You will take the second exit. Use the correct lane, slow down, give way to the right, enter when safe and signal as you leave.
Quick Check
- Who must you give way to when entering a roundabout?
- When should you signal to exit?
- Is it safe to change lanes inside a roundabout?
