Road Markings
Road markings show where you should drive, when you may change lanes, where to stop and which areas must remain clear.
Key Rules
- A broken line may be crossed when it is safe and legal.
- A continuous line generally means you must not cross it.
- Stop lines show where you must stop at signs and traffic lights.
- Painted areas and traffic islands are generally not for driving.
Common Mistakes
- Changing lanes across a continuous line.
- Stopping after the stop line.
Practical Example
You want to change lanes, but there is a continuous line between lanes. Wait until the marking allows a lane change.
